Darren Sharp is a partner at Schaefer Law Firm, LLC, where he represents clients primarily in employment law, condominium and townhome law, consumer protection law, and other litigation.
In the employment law field, Darren concentrates his practice on discrimination, sexual harassment, and retaliation claims with a portfolio of clients ranging from manual laborers to senior corporate executives. He has advocated on behalf of clients with sex, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, race, and national origin discrimination claims. He also regularly enforces medical leave rights and protects from retaliation employees who refuse to engage in illegal conduct or who report such conduct. Another principal focus of his practice is analyzing and providing advice regarding employment contracts, non-compete agreements, and severance agreements.
Darren has successfully prosecuted employment claims against some of the most powerful companies in world. He has helped dozens of individuals fight improper denials of unemployment compensation benefits. He has argued in both Minnesota state and federal courts, yet represents clients from across the country and internationally.
A problem solver by nature, Darren often works with his clients from behind the scenes to counsel them on the legal impact of their employment decisions or the legality of their employer’s conduct.
Darren focuses his consumer protection practice on helping condominium and townhome associations and their unit owners hold developers accountable for complying with disclosure and reserve fund requirements. In doing so, he has represented numerous homeowners’ associations and hundreds of condominium and townhome unit owners. For the last five years, Darren has spearheaded the Firm’s condominium litigation and obtained multiple six-figure results. His advocacy led to the first favorable jury verdict in Minnesota against a developer for failing to adequately fund a condominium’s reserves.
A fluent Spanish speaker, Darren has worked with dozens of Spanish-speaking clients and has expanded the firm's ability to serve clients with limited English language abilities.
Darren received his B.A. in Political Science and Spanish from the University of Missouri. During his undergraduate studies, he spent two semesters studying at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, in Mexico City, Mexico. Prior to law school, Darren taught social studies in Denver, Colorado. He received his J.D., with honors, from the University of Minnesota.
He is a member of the Minnesota State and Hennepin County Bar Associations, as well as the National Employment Lawyers’ Association and its Minnesota affiliate.
