Jill Gaulding is an experienced litigator and educator, committed to the pursuit of civil rights and equal opportunity. Jill concentrates her practice on discrimination law and has extensive experience in all aspects of employment law.

Prior to joining the Schaefer Law Firm in 2007, Jill was an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Iowa College of Law from 2002 through 2006. She taught Employment Discrimination Law, Seminar on Employment Discrimination in Global Perspective, and Contract Law (with Legal Research and Writing). In 2005, she was selected by her colleagues and students for the Collegiate Teaching Award. Prior to joining the University of Iowa faculty, from 1999 through 2002, Jill was a litigation associate at the law firm of Dwyer & Collora, LLP, in Boston, MA , where she concentrated her work on plaintiff-side employment law and complex civil litigation. In that role, Jill had an opportunity to lead the development of innovative arguments in a class action wage and hour suit and to author an argument that led the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court , in a groundbreaking case, to recognize liability for unconscious cognitive bias.

Jill also clerked for the Honorable Sandra L. Lynch of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and spent two years as one of ten American fellows at the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany . As a Humboldt Foundation Fellow, Jill conducted comparative research on equal opportunity law and gender equality in the European Union and Germany .

Jill received her J.D., summa cum laude, from Cornell Law School in 1995, where she was the President of the Public Interest Law Union.  Jill holds an M.S. in Linguistics and Philosophy, as well as a B.S. in Cognitive Science, both from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
